Different DynamicsDifferent Dynamics by Tamir Drake
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I was given this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly, I didn't understand most of this book. It seemed like I came in at the middle. Nothing was explained. Relationships just became what was necessary to make the book continue on. The sentence structure was choppy. There were times I thought I missed a page.

I feel like I want to like it more than I did because there was a small frayed thread in there of hope that it would turn out to be great afterall, but it just abruptly ended. Weird.

The Simple WildThe Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was given this book as an ARC from NetGalley.

Calla finds herself at 26 with no relationship with her real father, a boyfriend that she realizes she doesn't truly care about, and no job. A call from Alaska sends her out to meet her father again and finds her with heartbreak and love and some muskrat jerky.

I loved this book. It was everything I was hoping for in a K. A. Tucker book. I loved all of the characters and how it was true to it's Alaskan roots. I will admit that some of the story in the start was slow, but it was worth it in the end.

When We Were YoungWhen We Were Young by Anna Benoit
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.

Wow. This book was a dark, heavy teenage drama that basically took on every single bad situation possible. There was death, murder, rape, drugs, weapons, divorce, abuse, broken homes. I felt like every new chapter brought on a new affliction.

The writing was good, it just wasn't interesting. The story didn't flow, it just got deeper and deeper into even more issues. At first I liked the characters and then by the end of the book, I thought they were very different that they all appeared. This wasn't a favorite of mine.

Death DaysDeath Days by Lia Cooper
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was given this ARC by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Nicholas Littman is a professor by day and a necromancer by night. He's trying to keep a low profile so that he doesn't have to join The Order, but his twin sister is making that decision more complicated. Also, let's not forget his TA, Josiah Wexler who shows up on his doorstep after being bitten and is presenting as a werewolf.

Overall, I enjoyed this read, but it started out slow for me. I was hoping to get more into the necromancer side of it, but that didn't happen. I think overall there just wasn't enough plot line for me to really get into this one.

Dark CityDark City by Sarah Kay Moll
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love this book! It had everything. Suspense, intrigue, murder, mystery, love, hate, twists and turns.

Jude grew up understanding he was different than his brother, seemingly more like his mother. His father 'molded' him into the ruthless assassin that he became as Ras, yet the sweet, loving Jude was still there in moments. This is the tale of how Jude fought with Ras, then with those around him to make himself the man he could live with, even if that meant taking the lives of those who loved him.

This book drew me in completely from the start and kept me on the edge. So so good.

I was given this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Daphne and Oliver's siblings killed themselves 7 years ago and when Daphne finds a bucket list they made, she's determined to complete everything on it for them with Oliver.

I really wanted to love this book. The writing was choppy. Parts were cheesy. I didn't love Daphne. I really liked Oliver, however, which kept it interesting. There were no surprises and the ending was obvious.

It was a cute story. Pretty original.

Beastly Businessmen and Guitar GodsBeastly Businessmen and Guitar Gods by Asta Idonea
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this ARC for an honest review from NetGalley.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a collection of happily ever after stories all centered around a single business in London, DunGriffin Corp. Each of the six stories are super sweet, fun, short and guaranteed to make you feel good.

I loved how the stories all rested on the same company and intertwined. You saw six very different protagonists and they were each great in their own right.

I really enjoyed each story and will definitely read again when I've got a bit of time and need a quick pick me up!

Strutting and FrettingStrutting and Fretting by Kevin McKeon
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Bob is on a quest to figure out what he did wrong and why his life isn't what he thought it would be. He takes a journey that, while fun at times, is somewhat dry. This book didn't keep my interest like I had hoped it would. I liked it okay, but was hoping for a little bit of laughter like I was promised in the blurb. The writing flowed, the characters were good, it just lacked that excitement that made me not want to put it down.

Cold Like SnowCold Like Snow by Sita Bethel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book. It's difficult to say because on one hand, I felt like there was no story. There was nothing that pushed the story line along at all, yet the characters were awesome. I loved the relationship between Rene and May. I love the relationship between Bastion and Marcus. I loved them all together. The end was obvious, but I felt like by the time you made it there, you wanted it, so it worked. I'd totally read it again.

Fogland PointFogland Point by Doug Burgess
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review by NetGalley.

I had no opinion or predictions at all when it came to reading this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was smart and witty and suspenseful and fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the history and I'm not overly into historical fiction. This was more like a Golden Girls guide to history and intrigue. It was a fun ride and I loved the characters. There were more twists and turns than I had prepared for, but it wasn't detracting from the story, nor did it make you wish for a real ending quicker.

I'd definitely recommend this one to anyone who likes a good who done it with a bit of humor and history.

Something of Him: Love is ComplicatedSomething of Him: Love is Complicated by Jonathan M. Lazar
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received this book as an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Jeffrey's story goes back and forth throughout the book in different ages and times in his life revealing the relationships he's had and the fallout of each.

I did really enjoy the character of Jeffrey, I thought in some areas he was contradictory to what he wanted/was searching for.

I found that the main point of the story was his relationship with Ryan, yet there wasn't much revealed about what actually transpired between them.

The writing was good, the flow was good. The book was good. Not excellent, but good.

A Mage's PowerA Mage's Power by Casey Wolfe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was given this ARC from NineStar Press and NetGalley for an honest review. THANK YOU!

I loved this book. I thought the story was great, the characters had depth and were magical as was the setting.

The fantasy world was familiar enough due to the modern technology, so it didn't confuse or detract from the story line. Each character was either a mage, a wolf, a witch, a nymph, etc. I loved the infusion of the different races all living together, working together, mating with different species.

I read this book in a single day because I couldn't wait to find out how it ended. I thoroughly enjoyed every word.

A Postmodern LoveA Postmodern Love by Nick Totem
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I was given this ARC by Lucen Geist Literary Press, LLC via NetGalley.

I tried so hard to love this book. The writing worked. The story worked. I just couldn't bring myself to like the main characters. Thomas Wilde was just too much for me. He was a smart doctor, but he had no common sense. He deserved all that he got, in my opinion. I just couldn't feel any sense of pity for him. Lana was a work of art. She was the typical black widow-esque protagonist.

I really thought the story had some intrigue and there were definitely good parts, but overall I found it lacking and was difficult to get into.

Hard Sell (21 Wall Street, #2)Hard Sell by Lauren Layne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was given this ARC by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was your typical Lauren Layne novel with witty, fun characters, suspense, fun, and always a happy ending. I did like the spin on this with the enemies with benefits angle.

If you are looking for a quick, easy, fun story that will make you laugh and feel like romance actually happens, this is the book for you!

Martin and Casey are partners and agents in the London Secret Service. On a mission, Casey is in peril and Martin risks everything to save him, but unwillingly creates even more life and death situations.

I loved this book. I loved the characters and the story line. I'm typically not huge on fantasy, but this was written so well and was very interesting. The flow was great. The only negative that I found was that with every mysterious problem, the solution was easy and immediate, leaving little suspense for the reader.

I'd definitely recommend this one.

So good! I was on pins and needles. Ben has taken Michael under his wing and given him a job at his auto repair shop. When Michael gets caught up with the mafia-ish bad guys, he becomes a liability that Ben has to decide is he’s worth the risk.

This book was unexpected and my first from Ki Brightly but it won’t be my last. Great style, great characters, great book!

This is the third book in the series and it was great! The story was quick moving, the characters were smart and real. I thoroughly enjoyed it all.

Accidentally PerfectAccidentally Perfect by Elizabeth Stevens
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

I loved this book. It was all of the emotions of a young/teen/angst/love story.

Piper was waiting for her John Cusack and Roman was convinced it wasn't him, because he was the bad boy and would never be good enough. It is an old tale of heartbreak, but this story was fun and light and the witty banter and emotional discussions were top notch.

The only thing that I would say is that it seemed long in the middle, where maybe it need not have been. Great read, though.

I was given this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

First of all, the story was cute. The characters were engaging and I felt a connection with them from the start. The storyline was consistent and went at a good pace.

The only part that bugged me was that I had a hard time figuring out the dialog and who was saying what. The spacing was all off throughout the book and many paragraphs blended together.

Overall, it was a good story and I'd recommend it.

Worth Fighting For (Heart of the South #3)Worth Fighting For by Wendy Qualls
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.

Sterling Harper is going through the motions of life when his wife dies and his son (who's on the spectrum) decides she wants to transition. In an effort to find a home provider/nanny for the summer he finds Jericho Johnson. Jericho is a spec ed teacher by day and a gay man by night.

The team dynamic is great from the start. I loved the writing. It was a sweet story with good forward momentum and the characters were true to form. There was definitely a possibility for this to go off the rails with depth of transgender, autism, gay, legal issues, but it stayed the course and was enjoyable.

It was definitely worth my time and a good, quick read.

Silvia and Marshall meet with a therapist for a vomit session when Marshall finds out their daughter isn’t his.

This book was so hard to get through. I didn’t like the writing style where it was stream of consciousness and then all of a sudden there was dialogue interspersed. It just didn’t flow at all to me.

I found Silvia to be annoyingly emotional in all of the wrong places.

This book just didn't do it for me.

Emergency ContactEmergency Contact by Elle Brownlee
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Liam is a no nonsense man of math and likes order and problems with solutions. Garrett falls into his life when he moves from Iowa to NYC to kick off a career in modeling. The story started off well enough, but turned into one of many distractions. I had a hard time believing that the main relationship issue was obvious from week 2, but was never addressed in 6 months. I'm glad I hung on, though, because the ending was worth the wait.

The Benefits of Being an OctopusThe Benefits of Being an Octopus by Ann Braden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this book as an ARC from Skyhorse Publishing via NetGalley. THANK YOU!

This young adult book was exactly what I hoped it would be. Wonderful writing clearly defines the life of seventh grader Zoey who lives in a trailer park with her mom's boyfriend and his father and her younger brother and sister. It becomes obvious quickly that if she wants to make their lives better, she will have to be the catalyst. Not only does she take on this role, but she turns those around her into supporting cast and clearly makes a long lasting impact.

The writing was great, there were no slow sequences and everything flowed well. I read this book from start to finish in one sitting and really enjoyed it.
